6:50 PM- 7:30 PM: Nickname mixers: everyone takes a piece of paper and writes one of their nicknames. Each person puts the piece of paper in the cowboy hat and everyone sits in a circle. We take turns choosing a paper from the hat, and then we take turns guessing who it is. Ex: 1st person chooses a paper and then guesses who it is from the circle. 7:30 PM- 8:15 PM: Dinner. Buy premade pelmeni, a variety of Russian salads, and other Russian goodies from the Russian grocery store.
8:15 PM- 8:50 PM: Chyornyi Bumer (Black BMW)! Show the music video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zd1kdeL7baUto) Chyornyi Bumer on the TV and split into 2 or 3 teams. Each team will have to re-write a song/cheer titled “Black BMW” to the tune of a modern song. Each team performs their song/cheer. (Song Lyrics)
8:50 PM- 9:20 PM: Russian Mafia. Explain that a major value of Russian culture is relationships between friends and family and that a major part of relationships is trust and communication. Then separate everyone into 2 groups and have them stand in a circle, and hold the hand of someone across the circle not standing next to them. They’ll have to then re-create the circle. Afterwards, play (Russian) Mafia if there’s enough time.
9:20 PM- 9:55 PM: Communism Debate. Number off people 1 and 2. 1 is pro-communism, and 2 is anti-communism. Give them 15 minutes to write down their points arguing that their side is correct. Pro speaks for 3 minutes Con rebuts for 3 minutes Con speaks for 3 minutes Pro rebuts for 3 minutes Pro asks yes/no questions for 2 minutes Con asks yes/no questions for 2 minutes Pro rebuts for 3 minutes
9:55 PM- 10:50 PM: Speaker. Mike Soliterman’s parents will talk about their experiences with anti-Semitism in the Soviet Union.
10:50 PM- 11:00 PM: Elise's follow-up program. Pass out post-it notes and have people define themselves. Everyone puts their post-it note on a big poster board that has a huge Jewish star in the middle.
